While you won’t find major league play happening within the city, there are some fantastic minor league teams worth checking out on a regular basis.

Just a short drive from your Fresno apartments, in fact, you will find teams that represent just about every sport worth cheering for. And, if the minors don’t impress you, Fresno State’s teams probably will. The university has teams that cover just about every sport imaginable and its players enjoy getting local support at games and events. The sporting action you’ll find on the Fresno sports scene includes:

The Fresno Grizzlies – This Triple-A team has been bringing baseball action to Fresno since 1998. It plays at Chukchansi Park in downtown. Fresno Grizzly baseball action is a favorite for many who like watching the Pacific Coast League team take the field. The team is affiliated with the San Francisco Giants.

Fresno Falcons Hockey – If some serious puck action is what you’re looking for, the Fresno Falcons are the team to root for. This minor league ECHL team plays at Selland Arena and has brought home a division championship and other accolades during its long history. The Fresno Falcons have been a mainstay in the city since 1946. The team frequently plays the nearby Bakersfield Condors.

Fuego Soccer – The futbol club Fresno Fuego is a relative newcomer to the Fresno sports scene. This United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League team has been playing in Fresno since 2003. It plays home games out of Chukchansi Park and is known for teaming up with the Grizzlies for cross promotions and events. Ticket prices are affordable, and if you have kids, you might like to know that children 10 and under get in free.

Fresno State – If you love college level sports, you’ll love living in Fresno. Thanks to Fresno State and its mighty Bulldogs, residents can take in football, baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, swimming and more. The Dogs play their home games at various venues, and much of the action can be caught on television thanks to a partnership with CBS. Tickets to most of the university’s sporting events are fairly affordable.

Catching some exciting live sports action in the central valley only requires leaving Fresno apartments to check out the many minor league and college teams in the area. The city certainly has its bases covered when it comes to sports. From baseball and football to hockey and beyond, the Fresno sports scene is more than active.
